Fans were left raging after former Williams sponsorship manager and F1 pundit Peter Windsor pointed out a flaw in the Red Bull RB20 that could allegedly be the reason behind its decreased performance of late. The Austrian outfit started its 2024 campaign strongly, continuing its success from the 2023 season, and won five of the first six races courtesy of Max Verstappen.

However, the world champion team has seemed to have lost its early season advantage since Imola and has been challenged strongly by rivals Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari in the past eight races.

Windsor posted about Red Bull losing its advantage on X and said:

"Looks as though RBR might have been running a clever rear cross-brake inertia valve before they were obliged to remove it before Miami. This could explain Max's RR brake drama in MEL and his turn-in grief since China."

F1 fans reacted to Windsor's possible theory with one claiming that the Milton Keynes team was "cheating".

"Classic Red Bull cheating the sh*t out of f1 without getting penalized…" they said.

"The real question is: for how long was RBR functionally using asymmetric braking? Last year too? Earlier?" a fan said.
"Far more logical than three teams suddenly turning a massive corner," another said.
"Clever is a soft way to say. @fia needs to be on top of it. But we never know for how long they have been able to extract great results in this "clever" way," a third fan said.

Yet another said:

"Any good reason to believe the illegal part WAS NOT a part of earlier RBs?"

However, Red Bull engineer Callum Nicholas did not hold back while calling out Windsor on his theory about the RB20's rear brake system.

Replying to Peter Windsor's post on X, Callum Nicholas said:

"Yea… this is bullsh*t…. Unsurprisingly."

He further commented on F1 technical analyst Craig Scarborough's comments agreeing with Windsor and added (via PlanetF1):

“I’ve been building the car for the last 14 races, he hasn’t. The only reason I care about this stuff is because really, people should just be giving the other teams the credit they deserve for putting in the work and catching up. Not everything has to be some big conspiracy.”

The reigning world champion team, despite not winning since the Spanish GP, have been leading the Constructors' Championship with 408 points after 14 races and three Sprints thus far, 42 points ahead of McLaren. With 10 races and three Sprints remaining in the 2024 season, the Austrians could have a third consecutive double this year.
