F1 fans were left reeling after it was reported that Ferrari technical director Enrico Cardile would be leaving the team to join Aston Martin for the 2025 season. The Italian has been one of the key people behind the Prancing Horses's resurgence since he was made the Head of Chassis and Aerodynamics under the leadership of Frederic Vasseur.
The Maranello-based outfit have been actively recruiting team personnel from other teams this year to strengthen their technical department for the coming years.
However, Cardile might not be part of the team's future as he had reportedly been poached by Aston Martin. As per Formu1a.uno, Cardile was convinced to join the Silverstone-based team after having several calls with the team owner Lawrence Stroll.
His varied roles within the team are rumored to be given to the soon-to-be-joined Loic Serra, who starts his tenure at Maranello on October 1 after leaving a decade-long partnership with Mercedes.
F1 fans took to social media to give their reactions to Enrico Cardile's move to Aston Martin on X, with one fan linking it to the Italian team's last two disappointing races in 2024, saying:
"Ferrari falling apart lol," said a fan.
"Ferrari has fallen off quickly from that Monaco high," claimed another fan.
Another fan mulled:
"This is a bold move. Cardile was heading Ferrari in the right direction."
"Cardile is now going to get in the way of the damn Aston Martin. Ferrari needs geniuses," wrote another.
"Good job. Leave the dreadful team while it’s still early," pointed another fan.
Lewis Hamilton gives his take on Ferrari's recent struggles
Lewis Hamilton stated that he wasn't worried about his future team Ferrari's decline but claimed that he was focused on ending on a high with Mercedes.
In his post-race press conference, the Mercedes driver said:
"No, not at all. And my job this year, right now, is to work as hard as I can with the crew that I have, with the people back at the factory to try and move and develop the car in the right direction."
However, Hamilton recognized that the Italian team had had a couple of tough races after their win in Monaco and seemed to be progressing, adding:
"I think they've had a couple of difficult races, but let's not forget they had a race win in Monaco. I can't tell you what is wrong with their car and why they are in the position they're in today."
"But they did bring an upgrade here, and I think they are definitely progressing. So yeah, but it doesn't make me second guess my decision at all," he added.
The Italian team are currently P2 in the Constructor's Championship with 270 points, 60 points behind the leader Red Bull, but are chased by McLaren for their spot as they have a margin of 33 points from them.
