An Austin-based bartender shared a hilarious story of crossing eyes with Max Verstappen while trying to move his group out of the bar. He mentioned that he was "pissed" upon not being able to get the group out until he saw the reigning F1 world champion with them.
The 2024 F1 US Grand Prix was one of the most action-packed races of the season so far. With a Ferrari 1-2 and a fierce battle for P3 between championship contenders Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, fans witnessed some exhilarating racing at Austin.
Post the race, the bars in Austin were loaded with people, revealed a bartender, who goes by the name of Noah on TikTok. He shared that while getting most of the people out of the bar during their closing time, there was a particular group of around 20 people that was not moving.
"So, quick story time. I'm a bartender here in Austin, Texas at the Blind Pig, which is on 36th Street. If you don't know at 36, it's basically the broadway of Nashville. Anyways, it is Formula 1 race week in here and we are slam packed. I'm talking shoulder to shoulder max capacity. And you know, it gets to that point of the night where we're closing down. We're trying to get everybody out of this building and I'm going around asking them nicely."
He then revealed that his manager stopped him from getting that particular group of people out. And while he was busy performing other duties while closing down, he matched eyes with one member of the group - Max Verstappen.
"I remember this one group about 20 people. I'm like, they are not moving. So I finally, I raised my voice and I'm like, 'Please walk towards the exit. You can walk and talk.' And my manager goes, 'Oh no, this group is good. This group is good.' So I'm standing there for a second. Just kind of pissed off."
"I'm like, why, why are they good? So I bring over [the] trash can I start picking cups up off the table. And I make eye contact with one dude in particular. It's Max Verstappen. Like number one Formula 1 driver in the world."
Max Verstappen one step closer to winning F1 championship with P3 finish at COTA
Red Bull has been struggling for race pace in recent months. While its competitors McLaren and Ferrari have shown promising performances, Max Verstappen's seven wins early in the season are currently keeping him in a comfortable lead.
Although it is mathematically possible for Lando Norris to win the championship at the final race in Abu Dhabi, he needs to start winning races. Verstappen has created a gap that would allow him to win the title even if he finishes P2 in the remaining races and Norris wins all of them.
The US Grand Prix was particularly tough for Norris. Despite starting on pole position, he lost the lead early in the race and battled with Verstappen for P3. While he did manage to take the place, he was penalized five seconds for going off the track and gaining an advantage.
Verstappen stepped on the podium once again while Norris finished P4. The two drivers are split by 57 points in the championship standings. With five races to go, if the Dutchman manages to keep up his performances, he will win his fourth consecutive F1 drivers' championship.
