On this day in Formula One history

On this day, 08th September, seven grand prix events were held in Formula One and all of them being Italian grand prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in 1957, 1963, 1968, 1974, 1985, 1991 and 1996.

08/09/1957 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 8 of 8 with 87 laps to chequered flag and 18 drivers starting the race. Stirling Moss of Vandervell Products Ltd. team won the race starting 2nd on the grid while team-mate and pole sitter Stuart Lewis Evans retired with engine failure. Tony Brooks set the fastest lap of the race. It was a first career pole position for Stuart Lewis Evans.

08/09/1963 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 7 of 8 with 86 laps to chequered flag and 21 drivers starting the race. Jim Clark of Team Lotus won the race starting 3rd on the grid while pole sitter John Surtees of Scuderia Ferrari retired with engine failure. Jim Clark set the fastest lap of the race. It was a debut race for Mark Spence of Team Lotus.

08/09/1968 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 9 of 10 with 68 laps to chequered flag and 22 drivers starting the race. Denny Hulme of Bruce McLaren won the race starting 7th on the grid while pole sitter John Surtees racing for Honda Racing retired with an accident. Jackie Oliver of Gold Leaf Team Lotus set the fastest lap of the race who retired with a transmission issue. It was a last pole position for John Surtees.

08/09/1974 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 13 of 15 with 52 laps to chequered flag and 25 drivers starting the race. Ronnie Peterson of Team Lotus won the race starting 7th on the grid while pole sitter Niki Lauda racing for Ferrari retired with an engine failure. Carlos Pace set the fastest lap of the race. It was a last race for David Hobbs.

08/09/1985 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 12 of 16 with 51 laps to chequered flag and 26 drivers starting the race. Alain Prost of McLaren won the race starting 5th on the grid while pole sitter Ayerton Senna racing for Team Lotus finished third. Nigel Mansell set the fastest lap of the race in Williams-Honda car.

08/09/1991 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 12 of 16 with 53 laps to chequered flag and 26 drivers starting the race. Nigel Mansell of Williams-Renault won the race starting 2nd on the grid while pole sitter Ayerton Senna finished 2nd in Honda-McLaren car. Ayerton Senna set the fastest lap of the race.

08/09/1996 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 14 of 16 with 53 laps to chequered flag and 20 drivers starting the race. Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher won the race starting 3rd on the grid while pole sitter Damon Hill retired from the race in Williams-Renault car. Michael Schumacher set the fastest lap of the race.
