Williams pin hopes on new Pirelli tyres

F1 Young Driver Tests - Silverstone: Day Three

Williams believe that the new tyres from Pirelli will help the team perform better in the remainder of the season. Williams are yet to score a point this season, their longest ever point drought from the start of any season.

“For us we find that there are some differences. It’s not a revolution, it doesn’t transform the car. New-tyre grip is a bit different on the warm-up phase but then in long-run consistency we think they are a bit better. In terms of graining and resistance it’s better as well. For the race it will change a bit because you can push, so for us it’s a positive change,” said Williams chief engineer Xevi Pujolar about the new Pirelli tyres.

The new tyres from Pirelli has the 2012 structures with new compounds. Teams were allowed to test the new tyres in the Young Driver Test in Silverstone, where race drivers were allowed to take part in the test by the FIA. The tyres will be used in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
