2014 season of Formula One has not only new set of rules and regulations but also new combination of drivers for different teams. Ferrari decided to sign back their former driver, Kimi Raikkonen in the place of their current racer Felipe Massa. Mark Webber’s retirement at the end of this season is opening the doors of Red Bull racing team for the young Daniel Riccardio.

Williams F1 team has signed Massa why bidding farewell to the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix winner Pastor Maldonado.

Massa could give a new life to Williams

The could-have-been 2008 World Champion gets along with him his experience of 12 years which will be very useful in getting back the British team on track. The 32 year old Brazilian stands eighth in this season with 106 points, one podium positions and has managed to finish in points in 14 races out of 17. The numbers speak about his abilities.

The new rules get the game to square one. Which team is going to be dangerous cannot be predicted right now. Massa hoping to get a great car, will give everything which he can to help Williams. His recent performances where we saw him out-qualifying his teammate five times in the last six races make him one of the promising drivers of 2014 if Williams do their part well.

He revealed recently that before signing the contract with Williams he had talks with McLaren, Lotus, Sauber and Force India. Williams’s engine deal with Mercedes-Benz for 2014 and the prediction of them being one of the powerful engines on grid made up his mind about the team.

Maldonado might find place in Lotus

Williams currently has one Championship point—thanks to Maldonado’s P10 in Hungary—not forgetting his thrilling victory in Spain last year. He has always done a decent job, but that was not good enough for securing his place in the team.

Valtteri Bottas’s P3 in qualifying in Canada made him the team’s choice for 2014. Even after starting third on grid he finished only 14th, which meant no points. Bottas has zero Championship points as of now in the season. This clearly indicates that Maldonado is a better driver who deserves to continue his F1 career.

Now that Raikkonen has joined Ferrari, there is a vacant driver’s place in Lotus. There were talks about hiring the German Nico Hulkenberg but no decisions have been taken yet by them. Maldonado has great chances to get lucky here.

Two more races and the 2013 season will come to an end. The driver’s who are still yet to sign a contract for 2014 like Pastor Maldonado should perform more than their abilities to impress teams like Lotus, McLaren and Force India who are still deciding upon their team for the next season.
