12 tweets that football fans re-tweet time and time again

Tweets

Football is all about banter and could there be any better medium than Twitter for that? Almost every other top footballer is on Twitter, with many of them handling their account themselves, instead of a PR-team. Including the ones who are perhaps not very used to it.

They say, ‘Once you put it on the internet, it's there FOREVER,’ and it is somehow true. There have been several occasions when a tweet has backfired on a footballer or a club, and fans retweet those tweets again and again whenever an opportunity to gain internet brownie points arises. Well, you know how Twitter works.

Here are 12 such tweets that fans just love to retweet again:?

Mario Balotelli laughing out loud on Manchester United

Following Manchester United’s loss to Leicester City in September this season, the Italian striker reaction on Twitter attracted a lot of unwanted attention. Several fans tweeted back to Balotelli while targeting his skin colour and comparing him to a monkey among other racial slurs. The case was further reported to the authorities who insists actions will be taken soon enough.

Romelu Lukaku asking all the important questions

The Belgium striker had tweeted this during the FIFA World Cup after Germany won 7-1 against Brazil. Rival supporters of Arsenal still re-tweet this every time the club loses an important match or misses out on signing a big name.

It wasn't really good day for Arsenal supporters

Former Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas’ move to rivals Chelsea last summer was met with a lot of scepticism, and this particular tweet of the Spaniard was massively re-tweeted.

Must have been hard to come with a caption like this one

This certain tweet attracted more negative feedback than perhaps most other tweets here, simply due to the cheesy caption and was retweeted mostly whenever then-Manchester United manager David Moyes had a tough night with the team.

Is Johnson the best full-back in the country?

Retweeted 22,365 re-tweets, this tweet still manages to appear on my Twitter timeline every time Glen Johnson has a poor match. Not the way you use social media, LFC!

Wayne Rooney is not very smart at times

Manchester United’s Rooney opened his account with a tweet that was intended for his then team-mate Rio Ferdinand while offering him a lift. Pretty sure, Rooney wanted to text, not tweet.

The Dat Guy Rises

If you already didn’t know, it was former Manchester United player Ravel Morrison who was the first one to refer to Danny Welbeck as ‘Dat Guy’ after his two-goal show for England last year. It is a huge thing now. Perhaps one of Morrison’s career highlights.

Twitter win!

During their match against Manchester United this October, West Brom’s social media team took a hilarious jibe at Marouane Fellaini who was preparing to come on at the half-time. Too bad, he eventually scored an equalizing goal.

Borussia Dortmund are not a band

Yes, there was a time when Borussia Dortmund had to remind someone that they are not a music band. Funny now you think how unfortunate the team has been this season. Could someone have seen this coming?

Burn of the highest order

Did I ever say Wayne Rooney was not suited for Twitter? Because if I did, boy was I wrong. This was right after Robin van Persie had completed his switch from Arsenal to Manchester United and knowing the passionate Gunner that Morgan is, Rooney had the perfect opportunity for this top class banter right there!

Making the most out of your transfer move

Eden Hazard’s transfer from Lille was a controversial one, especially due to the high suspense the Belgian and his PR team were able to keep the supporters in. This is often retweeted whenever Chelsea are knocked out of the Champions League. What will be their fate this season?

Everyone remembers the hypocritical Rooney

Wayne Rooney’s critical tweet of Pepe is a personal favourite of mine, simply because how frequently it gets retweeted every time the English striker is sent off for doing something equally stupid that he accused Pepe of.
