3 EPL captains in the making including Arsenal star but not Wilshere

The likes of Vincent Kompany, John Terry and Steven Gerrard are the legendary Premier League captains of this era, but what about the future?

1. Gary Gardiner

Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardiner is the usual type of Premier League captain. A central box-to-box midfielder with pride in his club and also a hard worker. Gardiner has already made his mark on the Premier League and is often dubbed as the next Frank Lampard. Next he is expected to enter the international scene with England and is a potential future captain for the three lions, while he could also become skipper at Aston Villa, or even a bigger Premier League club if he leaves within the next year or two.

2. Aaron Ramsey

The Ramsey Show

Many football fans seem convinced that Jack Wilshere will be the next Arsenal captain, though he is not the right type of player to lead an entire squad, as he can be timid and often bows down to stronger opposition. Aaron Ramsey however does not. Similar to a young Rino Gattuso, Ramsey never stops, and no opponent is too big or too strong for the Welshman to have a go at. Although this may be Ramsey’s first season of performing at the highest level, but he has already showed his leadership qualities, and has also shown that he can be tough in defence, while also economical in attack.

3. Mohammed Abu

I, along with many football fans expected Mohammed Abu to be a little further on by now. The Ghana international is now 22 years old, and as the likes of Paul Pogba, Marco Verratti and Mario Gotze have become key parts of Juventus, Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich at a younger age, Manchester City only seem interested in loaning their young star out to small clubs instead of giving him a chance. Well I suppose that’s what money does to a club, but the former Lorient man is a carbon copy of current Manchester City anchorman Yaya Toure, and could well be as good as the former Barcelona man one day. If he chooses to stay at the Etihad Stadium, and Manuel Pellegrini gives him a chance, he will probably be wearing the captain band for the Blues in the future.
