Chelsea are still adapting to life under Maurizio Sarri and are currently fourth in the Premier League table. Their primary objective this term is to finish in the Champions League qualification places, while also looking for domestic success in cup competitions.

However, the Blues need to make some important improvements within their senior side if they're to achieve their goals - Sarri could use the existing January transfer window as an opportunity to further enhance his squad.

With that in mind, here's a list of three signings who could help Chelsea finish in the top four places this season:

#3 Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen)

Chelsea have done a decent defensive job so far this season and conceded just 17 goals in the opening 22 Premier League games. However, with David Luiz and Gary Cahill's contracts set to expire at the end of this season, it's clear they need a new central defender to maintain their defensive stability.

Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah is one of the world's best young defenders and would be a great signing for the west Londoners. The 22-year-old is blessed with great reactions and can recover from any position. His huge frame, standing over 6ft 5in helps him to steal the ball away from attackers - using his rapid pace to eradicate counter-attacking threats.

The youngster has made 108 Bundesliga appearances and 123 total matches since joining Leverkusen in the summer of 2015. He also became a full Germany international in 2016, with four caps to date. Tah was previously linked in the past with a move to England's top-flight, and they could again turn their attention towards him.

Despite this though, his current contract with his parent club will run until 2023 and they might have to pay a premium to convince Leverkusen into selling one of their prized assets.

#2 Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

With Willian and Pedro ageing, while Callum Hudson-Odoi is consistently linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge, Chelsea need a new long-term attacking option on the wings.

They've announced the signing of Christian Pulisic - with the 20-year-old set to join in the summer, but they could do with more. Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is arguably the Premier League's best player currently playing outside the top six sides and would represent an exciting addition for the club, if a Chelsea transfer happens.

Zaha is a skilled dribbler and one capable of playing anywhere across the frontline. He likes to shoot from distance and has scored a number of goals from various angles throughout his career. The Ivorian forward also possesses electrifying pace and would be a joy to watch linking up alongside Eden Hazard as part of Chelsea's attack.

The 26-year-old has won Palace's Player of the Season award three years running and his performances shave not gone unnoticed - regularly receiving praise from critics while winning April's Player of the Month accolade last season. He has scored 25 goals and created 26 assists in 148 Premier League games, making him one of the hottest topics of EPL Transfer News, since re-joining Palace from Manchester United in 2014/15.

#1 Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)

With Álvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud struggling to score goals on a regular basis this season, Chelsea need a new centre-forward to lead their attacking frontline. RB Leipzig's Timo Werner is among the world's best young strikers at the moment and would represent the perfect player to take their attacking options to the next level.

Quick, hard-working and technically impressive, Werner has earned a lot of invaluable experience playing at the top level - with already 23 international caps for Germany's senior side to date. He proved a pivotal part in their FIFA Confederations Cup triumph in 2017, while also being part of their 23-man squad for last summer's World Cup in Russia.

Ultimately the team struggled and he played his part, though the tournament was one where form and cohesion essentially went out of the window for Joachim Low's men - who were surprisingly knocked out in the group stages.

The 22-year-old was Leipzig's top goalscorer across all competitions last term and also found himself a part of the UEFA Europa League Squad of the Season in 2017/18. He has continued his impressive form this term too, with 11 goals and two assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances this campaign.

The young German has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent months, though given his talent and world-class potential, it's clear the Blues will need to make a substantial offer to see Werner join them.
