Ousmane Dembele was originally made the most expensive player in Barcelona's history when he completed his mega-money move to the Camp Nou from Dortmund in the summer of 2017.

The Frenchman was signed to be a direct replacement for the PSG-bound Neymar, but a horrific injury early on in his Blaugrana career meant that he had a nightmare first season and could not make any significant contribution. That lead to the signing of Coutinho in January of 2018 and Malcom last summer

Dembele continued with his struggles at the start of the current campaign, with many suggesting that he was on his way out of the club amidst accusation of ill-discipline and poor lifestyle choices.

However, the World Cup winner has risen from those setbacks to become one of the major components of the Barcelona setup.

Dembele has become an indisputable starter under Valverde in recent weeks, helping contribute to their charge on three fronts with 13 goals and six assists from 33 matches in all competitions and is the major reason why Coutinho finds himself on the bench.

For as long as Dembele continues with his impressive run of form, Coutinho is likely to find himself out of the starting 11. Given the Brazilian's standing in the game as well as his high salary, this is not an ideal situation and it would be in both parties' best interests to part ways.
