#1 They don't actually need him - signing a top-quality striker priority

It's an unpopular opinion given Willian and Pedro's inconsistencies in the final third, but Chelsea don't need Pulisic - they long for a world-class finisher instead. They still haven't replaced Diego Costa's presence in attack, following his acrimonious departure two years ago.

Despite being a surprise addition in January, Olivier Giroud is a reliable backup option and you know what you get from him - excellent build-up play, a target man to utilize, with plenty of experience in goalscoring situations.

However, the Blues splashed £60m for Álvaro Morata's services last summer and despite a fast start, it quickly became clear that he's just not as good nor ruthless enough in front of goal to lead a Chelsea side with their ambitions. Their patience continues to wear thin with the out-of-form Spaniard, who isn't only inconsistent, but increasingly frustrating in attacking positions.

Questions over Eden Hazard's contractual situation still remain, with the Belgian unsure of his future as Real Madrid lurk patiently for his services. However, the physicality, fear factor and sheer clinical edge that Costa boasted, has not been improved upon.

Gonzalo Higuaín, Robert Lewandowski and Mauro Icardi are just three center-forwards who have been linked with a move to west London in previous seasons, but it's difficult to pinpoint one striker that would suit Chelsea's playing style. Either way, they need to sign a clinical finisher more than Pulisic - they're capable of creating chances, just not taking them as regularly as they can do.
