The primary reason why Los Blancos are in a pursuit of acquiring the teenage sensation is the departure of Ronaldo to Turin. Moreover, it's been a while since Los Blancos last signed a marquee player and the Madrid based club is looking to make a statement of intent that they are not to be underestimated even if Ronaldo is not there anymore.

But the point is, Mbappe is yet to produce the numbers that Ronaldo has been generating since he joined Real in 2009. Since then, Ronaldo has been the attacking fulcrum of Los Blancos until the 2017-18 season and he was consistently able to deliver 40+ goals per season.

On the other hand, Mbappe's most successful season was with AS Monaco, where he led from the front in Monaco's Ligue 1 triumph and was also able to guide his side to UEFA Champions League semi-finals. But even in that season, he scored a total of 26 goals, which is nowhere near the goal-scoring returns that Ronaldo and Messi are generating over the last decade.

Although these numbers are pretty impressive considering his age, there is a big question mark over his ability to consistently deliver the goods for a considerable period of time and the Madrid based club should think twice before spending such a hefty sum of money for an unproven talent.
