The transfer saga to follow for every football fan this summer. Matthijs de Ligt has made waves in the football world with his emphatic performances and has a line of European heavyweights locking horns for his signature. Manchester United, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, all are interested in the player's services, with Barcelona also in contention.
The Catalans were initially in the lead to win his signature but fell behind after the likes of Manchester United and PSG swooped in with better pay packages for de Ligt. However, that does not go to say the Blaugrana are out of the race; Barcelona have a lot of positives to offer even if finance isn't one of them.
First and foremost, Frenkie de Jong's move to the Nou Camp might as well tempt de Ligt to follow the lead of his compatriot. Secondly, knowing the amount of talent and maturity he possesses at such a tender age, the Dutchman can only improve if he joins the Catalans.
On Barcelona's front, they would gain an extremely valuable defender as a future successor to Gerard Pique; de Ligt could also fill in for the injury-prone Samuel Umtiti and form a robust defence.
Only time can tell if the LaLiga giants win the race for Matthijs de Ligt's services.
