Sterling and Sane - perfect wingers?

The PFA team of the year has been announced and it's shocking to see a lot of big names miss out! Here is the team in case you missed it: David De Gea; Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen, Nicolas Otamendi, Marcos Alonso; Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Christian Eriksen; Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero.

Here are 5 amazing players who missed out:

#5 Raheen Sterling

Raheem Sterling has arguably had his best season at Manchester City. The English winger has been the difference maker for them in a lot of matches and has helped them snatch a point from the jaws of defeat on multiple occasions.

The £49 million signing is proving to be one of the best buys made by the Cityzens in recent times and to an extent, some might even argue that he was a steal for that amount. With 17 goals and 8 assists this season in the league, one can only feel bad for him.

He's just unlucky that Mohamed Salah was playing in the exact same position and killing it at Liverpool. The Egyptian's place in the team of the year cannot be swapped for anyone and Sterling will be wondering what he should do to get into the team ahead of Salah next

#4 Roberto Firmino

Swansea City v Liverpool - Premier League
Bang! Bang! goes Bobby Firmino!

Roberto Firmino, just like Sterling, has had his best season in the Premier League. The Brazilian striker has been the best Liverpool forward ever since the departure of Luis Suarez.

Despite having 15 goals and 7 assists, Firmino's contribution has gone unnoticed because of Salah's red-hot form. The striker has been the one making space for the Egyptian to run in and score by pulling the defenders towards him.

#3 Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane has arguably been Manchester City's 2nd best player behind Kevin de Bruyne. The German winger has been giving nightmares to the right backs in the league by running circles around them.

The versatile player has been on top of his game throughout the season and has been the most consistent performer. An injury derailed him a bit midway through the season but he came back stronger than ever.

With 8 goals and 12 assists, it's a surprise to see him not in the PFA Team of the Year.

#2 James Tarkowski

Manchester City v Burnley - Premier League
Tarkowski has been Burnley's rock at the back

James Tarkowski has missed out on the PFA team of the year just because he does not play for a team in the 'Big 6'. The central defender has been excellent for Burnley and has been one of the main reasons for them to finish in the top 8.

The Englishman was so good, that Gareth Southgate gave him his first cap in the National side. He is now in contention to make it to the World Cup with players such as Gary Cahill failing to impress at their current club.

#1 Fernandinho

Manchester City FC v AS Monaco - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg
Fernandinho has been immense this season

How the PFA team of the year missed out the best defensive midfielder will now remain a mystery. The Brazilian has been consistent and rock solid in the heart of the pitch for Manchester City and has been contributing at both ends of the pitch for the Cityzens.

The Brazilian is easily the best CDM in the league and there is no justifiable explanation for his exclusion. The PFA TOTY does not have a defensive midfielder and it goes to show that defensive midfielders are not appreciated enough in modern football.
