Marcos Alonso could be the perfect solution to Chelsea’s left-back problems

The Manuel Pellegrini era at Real Madrid is somewhat of a forgotten one; which is fair given that he was there for only a year. With the amount of pressure that he was in, he couldn’t give youth players a chance with the first team.

However, one youth player caught the eye - it was Marcos Alonso.

Mind you, he is not a ‘big name’ like the others on this list, but the fee – £23 million, puts him on this list as that it is a large sum for a full-back.

He might have only featured once under the Chilean at Madrid, but there was something endearing about him. With Marcelo ahead of him in the pecking order, without showing any signs of declination, Alonso chose to leave the club for pastures anew.

At Fiorentina now, he is a reputed player among Serie A fans and Antonio Conte is no exception. The left-back conundrum at Chelsea has been present ever since Ashley Cole departed from the club. A lot of money has been spent for an apt replacement, but it has gone in vain thus far.

And with a £23 million move near completion, it seems as though Marcos Alonso will be newest attempt to solve the Blues’ left-back problems. Chelsea are also about to complete the signing of Marcelo Brozovic from Inter.

Possibility: 85%.
