#4 Kevin Großkreutz

Großkreutz had a season to forget after leaving Dortmund

Kevin Großkreutz was a fan favourite at Borussia Dortmund as he was a local lad who also supported the club. He was part of Jurgen Klopp’s teams that won back to back league titles and was also a starter in the UEFA Champions League final in 2013.

The German international was often Klopp’s utility man and was deployed in a wide variety of positions. During the 2013-14 season, Großkreutz played many games in a right-back role because of an injury to Piszczek and his good performance in that role earned him a berth in Germany’s World Cup squad.

Although Großkreutz didn’t play in Brazil in 2014, he was a World Cup winner.

The 27-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at Dortmund when Thomas Tuchel took over and on transfer deadline day in the summer transfer window of 2015, he was engineering a move to Galatasaray. The move was not sanctioned by FIFA because Galatasaray’s paperwork didn’t arrive on time and hence, he didn’t play football till January 2016.

He signed for Stuttugart in January without playing a single game for Galatasaray, but even he couldn’t help the 2006-07 Bundesliga winners from getting relegated.
