In 2022, no conversation about attack-minded defenders can be completed without paying homage to Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back is arguably the best player in his position right now and has drawn praise from every football pundit worth their salt.

From scoring outrageous goals to providing inch-perfect crosses, the Englishman has done it all this season. The Liverpool academy graduate has scored twice and provided 15 assists in 25 appearances in all competitions. Both of his goals and 10 assists came in the Premier League.

His impressive tally has not helped the Reds be in the title race but has also made him the league’s leading assist-provider. Fellow Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah (9) and Andrew Robertson (8) occupy the second and third positions, respectively.

#2 Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United) – 19 goal contributions

West Ham United have emerged as a dark horse in the Premier League's top-four race this season. Almost every single West Ham player has exceeded expectations, allowing them to take the fight to some of the best teams in the business.

While Michael Antonio has been the Hammers’ standout goalscorer, Jarrod Bowen leads the chart in overall goal contributions.

The Englishman operates as a right-winger for the London outfit and loves to cut in from wide areas. He has an eye for goal but is selfless enough to pass the ball when a teammate is in a better position.

The 25-year-old’s intelligent play has seen him rack up nine goals and 10 assists in 32 appearances in all competitions this season.

Out of his 19 goal involvements, 15 - six goals and nine assists - have come in the Premier League.

#1 Tammy Abraham (AS Roma) – 21 goal contributions

From struggling for opportunities at Chelsea to being AS Roma’s best performer, Tammy Abraham has come a long way over the last few months.

Under the great Jose Mourinho, Abraham seems to have unlocked his best self, producing match-winning performances on a consistent basis in Italy.

Playing in Mourinho’s pragmatic system, Abraham has had to put in a defensive shift, of course, but that hasn’t taken away his explosiveness up top.

This season, Abraham has featured in 30 games for Roma across competitions, registering 17 goals and four assists. In Serie A, he has pitched in with ten goals and three assists for the Giallorossi.

The Englishman is currently the sixth-leading goalscorer in the Italian top-flight, sitting seven goals adrift of joint-leaders Dusan Vlahovic and Ciro Immobile.
