Having fallen short in the final of the 2004 European Championships to Greece on home soil, Ronaldo lifted his first title in the competition when Portugal beat France in the 2016 final in Paris.

During the course of Portugal's successful Euro 2016 campaign, Ronaldo became the first player to score in 4 different editions of the competition. The Portugal captain moved level with Frenchman Michel Platini at 9 goals apiece in the tournament proper.

With Portugal having qualified for Euro 2020, Ronaldo could extend his scoring record at the tournament to a record 5 editions and take the outright lead in the tournament's all-time scoring chart.
