There are absolutely no adjectives left to describe the phenomenon that is Lionel Messi. The Blaugrana No 10 scores 50 goals every season like it's normal. What's insane for others, is routine for the Argentine.

However, in 2012, Leo Messi did the unthinkable. In a La Liga clash against Real Betis in December, Messi scored his 85th goal of the year, equalling German legend Gerd Muller's record of the most number of goals scored in a calendar year.

The Argentine went on to score six more goals as he set a new record of 91 goals in a year. A record that will take a lot of time to be challenged, let alone be broken.

The 2010/11 season for Barcelona was outstanding as the side played the greatest football the world has ever seen. The team played exquisite football week in, week out. Be it the solid defensive partnership of Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol, the holy trinity of a midfield consisting of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets or the phenomenon that is Lionel Messi, the side was oozing class and played peak possession-based football.

And that's exactly what they did when arch-rivals Real Madrid arrived at the Camp Nou. Goals from Xavi, Pedro, Jeffren and a brace from David Villa saw the Blaugrana cruise against Los Blancos.
