The controversy surrounding Diego Costa in the summer meant Chelsea needed a striker and a good one at that. After missing out on Romelu Lukaku who was signed by rival club, Manchester United, Conte decided to look elsewhere for his target. The ideal man for the job was Real Madrid forward, Alvaro Morata.

The Spaniard was reportedly fed up with his lack of adequate playing time despite his good form at the Santiago Bernabeu. Therefore, Chelsea offered the attacker a route out of Madrid to become their number 9. A sum of £70 million was paid to bring the player to the Premier League.

The move proved to be a blockbuster deal for the London side as the attacker settled in the team immediately. His performances ever since he switched to Chelsea have been really encouraging. He scored in his Premier League debut, just 10 minutes after he came off the bench to replace Michy Batshuayi, albeit in a losing cause in Chelsea's opening day defeat at the hands of Burnley.

In 10 Premier League appearances, the Spain International has scored 7 goals. He also has 1 goal to his name in the UEFA Champions League. He is very good in the air and at holding up the ball, with excellent movement, quick feet, and solid finishing ability. In fact, his aerial strength has been a big threat to opposing defences this season.
