Jurgen Klopp was all smiles as Liverpool secured a Champions League spot on the final day of the season

It's crazy to think Peter Schmeichel signed for Manchester United, won the Premier League five times, retired, had a son, who won the title with Leicester City, the last time Liverpool won the league title 28 years ago.

The Reds, under Brendan Rodgers, came close in 2013-14 only to lose out to Manchester City by two points. However, its looking even more likely under the tenure of Klopp that they will eventually go on to claim the league title at some stage - which could be next season.

Mohamed Salah claimed the Golden Boot this season with a staggering 32 goals all campaign, whilst setting a new goal scoring record and eclipsing the likes of Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.

Naby Keita will join liverpool for £52.75 million in the summer from RB Leipzig, and once the Champions League final is over, Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards will discuss potential recruits ahead of next season.

But who could the Reds bring in? Here are five players Liverpool should be looking at.

#5 Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)

Ryan Sessegnon could replace Alberto Moreno and provide competition for Andy Robertson next seasontion

The 17-year-old, who won PFA Young Player of the Year this year, continues to be linked with a move away from Craven Cottage as Manchester United and Tottenham continue to be touted with moves for the young teenager.

Even though Robertson, 23, seems to have nailed down a starting position in Klopp's XI, but the Reds are still keen on Sessgnon's services as they look for competition for the impressive Scot and a replacement for Alberto Moreno, who is expected to leave Anfield this summer.

Sessegnon, who can play as a left-winger as well as in the full-back position, scored to send Fulham to the play-off final, after sealing a 2-1 second-leg victory over Derby. He should be a no brainer for Klopp and Edwards.

#4 Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig)

Dayot Upcamecano would be a perfect partner for Virgil Van Dijk in the Liverpool defence next season

The Reds have already acquired the services of Keita, but have also previously been linked with a move for 19-year-old Upamecano. Seen as one of the best young defenders in Europe, the left-sided player would be a perfect addition in the heart of the Liverpool defence.

Being a rangy centre-back the France under-21 international possesses the composure of a player far older and the power of a pick-up truck. He is also good on the ball, calm in possession and good in the air.

Leipzig's youngest-ever Bundesliga player, Upamecano - who boasts a top speed of 21.3 mph, netted his 100th goals for Leipzig this season in a 2-0 victory over Augsburg earlier in the season. He has a contact until 2021, but Liverpool could still test Leipzig's resolve.

#3 Nabil Fekir (Lyon)

E
Lyon captain Nabil Fekir has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has previously claimed 'destiny' will sort out his future, suggesting a move to Merseyside could happen. He has scored 22 goals and contributed to seven assists, therefore filling the void left by Alexandre Lacazette and trying to help Lyon claim a Champions League place.

French international Fekir, recently claimed that 'nobodies at a club for life', suggesting he could move away from the Groupama Stadium in the neat future. It is thought Liverpool are lining a €60 million bid in hope to secure his signature.

It would certainly be worth the Reds pursuing a deal to bring him to Anfield, as he would be considerably cheaper than Ousmane Demblee who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool of late from Barcelona.

#2 Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)

Leipzig's Timo Werner could provide backup to Roberto Firmino and could Liverpool another option upfront

Werner, 22, wouldn't come on the cheap, but if Klopp is seriously wanting to win the league next season, the German youngster is the man the Reds should look at.

The player himself has previously claimed he would turn down a move to Liverpool's Champions League opponents Real Madrid, and opt for a move to Anfield. He is expected to join Germany at this summers World Cup in Russia, so no doubt Klopp will keep a close eye on him. being one of the hottest attacking prospects in Europe, he has netted 21 goals.

With Liverpool looking to offload Daniel Sturridge when the transfer window opens and Divock Origi and Danny Ings not to the required standard, Werner would be the the perfect addition.

#1 Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)

Slovenian international Jan Oblak would certainly make Liverpool stronger, but wouldn't come on the cheap

Klopp will look to close the gap on Manchester City next season and will turn his attentions to a new goalkeeper. Loris Karius is the current No.1, but that could soon change should the Reds move for the impressive Oblak.

A fee of €100 million would have to be put on the table and should Liverpool seriously want to compete with Pep Guardiola's side, they should make a move. The 25-year-old is also a target for Paris Saint Germain, Arsenal and Juventus, who are all monitoring his situation.

Sky Sports pundit Ian Wright has previously urged the Reds to sign Oblak - and said they should look to land him if they want to challenge City for the Premier League title.

"I think if Liverpool are definitely going to challenge City, that's the position [they need to strengthen]. That top keeper that can win you games with saves", Wright told Sky Sports.
