5 players on Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola's radar this summer

Manchester City v Chelsea - Premier League
Pep Guardiola would be looking at a crucial summer ahead of 2018/19 season.

Manchester City is having a fantastic 2017/18 season. They sit at the helm of the Premier League table and the only team close enough to them is Manchester United, but City has a massive 16-point lead over them.

They already have a hand on the Premier League trophy and have progressed to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Guardiola has transformed the team in his two-season spell at the club so far.

Some serious money has been invested in the squad and transformed the way football was being played at the Etihad Stadium.

However, City does not look like stopping anytime soon. They are looking towards adding more fire-power to their squad so as to mount an assault for a treble next season.

Here is a list of the players who are understood to be on the Spaniard's radar ahead of the upcoming transfer window:

#5 Jorginho

Jorginho is one of the hot prospects in Europe

Jorginho may not be a very popular name presently but the Napoli midfielder has gathered much attention this season.

He is currently regarded as the best central midfielder in Serie A and is a sublime passer of the ball. From the base of midfield, the player has scored four and provided for another four goals this season.

He possesses the ability to bypass the opposition with his pin-point balls over the top.

His precision and composure on the ball would tick the required boxes for the Spanish boss at the club and City are believed to be interested in the player.

However, a number of clubs are in the pursual of the player ahead of 2018/19 season. The Citizens would have to battle the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool for the player's signatures.

#4 Andres Iniesta

Iniesta has surprisingly been linked with a move to Manchester City recently

Iniesta is a surprise name being linked with a move to the Etihad to seek a reunion with his former manager in the Premier League.

He is in the latter stages of his career and Philippe Coutinho has already been signed as his potential replacement at the Nou Camp.

The midfielder is one player who needs no introduction. Considered to be the finest midfielder of his generation, the player has not lost any of his abilities.

Of course, age is doing its part to slow down the 33-year-old but he has been battling it all with his performances.

The reports in England suggest that Iniesta could be leaving Barcelona this summer to finish his career under the man who introduced him to the world, in the real sense.

Guardiola would certainly love to add more experience and fire-power to his team in form of the Spaniard.

#3 Toby Alderweireld

The B
The Spurs defender is among the best defenders in the world at the moment

Alderweireld joined the Spurs side in 2015 from Atletico Madrid. Since then, he has established himself among the elite group of defenders in the business.

The Belgian has been in sensational form over the past couple of years. Alongside Jan Vertonghen, he formed a centre-back partnership which appeared to be unbreakable.

However, the 2017/18 season has been an injury-hit one which has restricted him to just ten league appearances.

According to some reports, the defender is unhappy at the London club with his contract terms. He has demanded a wage-hike which chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to meet.

The player will enter into the final year of contract next season and this could force Spurs to sell him for a significantly reduced fee.

Manchester City has been linked with a move for the player recently and the 29-year-old would be a quality addition to the defence in place of perennially injured captain Vincent Kompany.

#2 Riyadh Mahrez

Mahrez was linked with a move to City in the January transfer window

Mahrez has been making the headlines in England for all wrong reasons since the deadline day of the January transfer window.

The Algerian was the subject of a late interest from City on the final day of the winter transfer window but the move failed to materialize.

He did not train with his teammates in the closing stages of the January window and missed two of Leicester’s Premier League fixtures before returning to the side. His professionalism has been questionable in the past couple of months.

The 27-year-old is certainly a spectacular player who deserves to play for a better team. He has bagged 10 goals and 10 assists in his 31 outings for the Foxes in all competitions.

Guardiola may be coming around for the player in the summer yet again.

Leicester, this time, could be forced into selling the player who is clearly not committed to the Foxes.

The forward would add much-needed depth as City prepare for pursuing more glory.

#1 Fred

The midfielder came close to joining City in January

No other player has been linked to City as the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder. His classy display against AS Roma in the 2nd round of UEFA Champions League proved why Guardiola is keen to sign the player in the summer.

The 25-year-old has been in sublime form for the Ukrainian side this season with his tenacity, tackling and passing. He is a marvellous passer of the ball and a severe counter-attacking threat.

The Brazilian has made 26 appearances this season and scored three while creating another four, from the central midfield position.

His dribbling and tackling skills have attracted the attention from some big clubs, and the player would tick all the required boxes for Pep at the Etihad Stadium.

The Cityzens made an unsuccessful attempt to sign the player in January as Shakhtar value the player closer to £50m.
