5 players to watch out for in the new Champions League season

PSV v Utrecht - Eredivisie
Hirving Lozano played a huge role in securing PSV's Eredivisie title last season

#3 Matthijs de Ligt

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ajax - Pre-Season Friendly
The teenage centre-back has already scored a goal in the Dutch league

Matthijs de Ligt, the 19-years-old is an imposing figure on the pitch, tall, strong but at the same time quick on the ball. He had the highest passing accuracy among all the Eredivisie defenders last season. He was the second youngest player to score for Ajax, behind only the club legend Clarence Seedorf. Described by many as the 'total defender', at 19 years of age his best is yet to come.

Having registered himself on the goal sheet for Ajax once this season already and also scoring a header in the third qualifying round of UEFA Champions League, it is clear that this imposing defender is also a goal threat from set-pieces.

And any team which faces Ajax, will not only have to find a way to get past him in the final third to score a goal but at the same time find ways to stop him from scoring a goal or two at the other end. His strength, defensive abilities, quick pace on the ball and a goal scoring threat from set-pieces make him a player to that opposition should watch out for.
