Torres’ endured a torrid time at Chelsea following his switch from Liverpool

Fernando Torres’ spell at Liverpool ranks amongst the most prolific in the Premier League as he scored 81 goals in 142 appearances for the club. Rafael Benitez and the club’s new owners showed great intent as they signed the young Spaniard from Atletico Madrid in 2007 for a club record £20.2 million.

During his time at Liverpool, Torres broke the record for the most number of League goals scored by a non-British player during his debut season in the Premier League which was previously held by Manchester United’s Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Spanish international was also runner-up to Cristiano Ronaldo for the Football Writers' Player of the Year.

After failing to win the Premier League with Liverpool, Fernando Torres made a then League record move to Chelsea for £50 million in 2011, although his move to Stamford Bridge didn’t work out quite as well individually.

Despite this, he won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup while only managing to score 45 goals in 172 appearances.
