First awarded to the Spurs forward, Jürgen Klinsmann in August 1994, the Player of the Month award is one of the leading individual player awards in the Premier League. It is awarded to the best player each month of the season on the first or second friday of the following month.

More than 200 Premier League Player of the Month awards have been awarded till date with a majority of them being received by English players. Manchester United have had more Player of the Month awards than any other club (34).

Robbie Keane is the only player to win this award for three different sides - Coventry City, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has been awarded the most recent PL Player of the Month - for February, 2018.

While there are numerous players who have won this award, it will be interesting to see who has won it the most. On this note, let us look at the top five players with the most Premier League Player of the Month awards.


#5 Sergio Aguero

The pivot point of Manchester City's dominance in the Premier League, Sergio Aguero is often regarded as one of the best strikers in the world of football.

He has scored 143 goals for the club, which makes him Manchester City's all-time leading goal scorer in the Premier League. The Argentine has recently won the Premier League Player of the Month award in January 2018, which takes his tally to five.

He has won the Etihad Player of the Year award twice and was also the Premier League Golden Boot winner for the 2014-2015 season.

Sergio Aguero has scored 36 international goals for Argentina in 84 games and will look forward to ending Argentina's World Cup drought in Russia.

Premier League Player of the Season for 2011-2012, Robin Van Persie has spent 11 years in the English top-flight and has won five Premier League Player of the Month awards during that time.

He first came to England when Arsene Wenger signed him for Arsenal in 2004. He spent 8 seasons with the Gunners scoring 96 goals in 194 games. Such a good goalscoring record gained him the attention of the Legendary Sir Alex Ferguson and he eventually signed him for Manchester United in the summer transfer window of 2012.

He led Manchester United to Premier League glory during his first year at the club with him finishing as the Premier League's top scorer that season. He then spent two more seasons at the Old Trafford before moving to the Turkish Super League club, Fenerbahce S.K. in 2015.

He moved back to his first professional club, Feyenoord, this year and is likely to hang his boots up soon.

Known for his technical abilities and strength, Wayne Rooney is primarily a striker but has also spent large chunks of his career playing in the midfield.

The Everton striker has won five Player of the Month awards, all at his former club, Manchester United. He is Manchester United's all-time leading goalscorer and has also won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award on two different occasions.

In his career, Wayne Rooney has won a total of 16 major trophies till date, which includes five Premier League trophies with Manchester United. He was included in the PFA Team of the Season three times and has also won the Golden Boy award in 2004.

Regarded as one of the best players England has ever produced, Wayne Rooney is England's all-time leading goal scorer and is also the second most capped player for England.

#2 Harry Kane

Although he is just 24, Harry Kane has won the Premier League Player of the Month award six times and if he continues to perform with the same consistency, we can see him adding more to his trophy cabinet.

Harry Kane was England's Player of the Year 2017 and England fans will have high hopes for him at the upcoming World Cup.

Liverpool's academy graduate, Steven Gerrard spent almost his complete career at Anfield and won numerous awards during his time at the club. He played 504 league games for Liverpool and has won the Player of the Month award on six different occasions.

Steven Gerrard won the Ballon d'Or Bronze award in 2005 and was included in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season eight times.

He was a prominent English international and has represented his country 114 times. He now works as a youth coach for Liverpool's U-18's.
