If Callum Hudson-Odoi is considering leaving Chelsea for the Bundesliga due to a lack of first team opportunities, then surely it won’t be long before his teammate Ethan Ampadu considers a similar move. The versatile Welshman – who can play both in central defense and as a holding midfielder – joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017, but first-team chances have since been few and far between.

Despite being just 18 years old – a couple of months older than Hudson-Odoi – Ampadu has proven to be such a developed talent that he already has 6 full international caps for Wales, and this past September saw him take a starring role as his side thumped the Republic of Ireland 4-1. Somehow though, this just hasn’t been enough for Chelsea.

In 2018/19 Ampadu has yet to appear in Premier League action, and despite Chelsea competing in two competitions usually considered to be secondary – the EFL Cup and the Europa League – the youngster has still only made 3 appearances for the Blues, one of which came as a substitute. 117 minutes of competitive football simply isn’t enough for a player of his standard.

Essentially, as a full international and a player who appears to have all the potential in the world, Ampadu would be an absolute steal for any Bundesliga club. Whether Chelsea would want to let him go is another thing, but with player power becoming ever stronger, perhaps it’d be a good idea for him to attempt to make the jump.
