#5 Mason Mount

Chelsea youngster Mason Mount is currently on loan at Frank Lampard’s Derby County, and by any standards, he’s having a pretty productive season. The creative midfielder has made 26 starts in the Championship with the Rams, scoring 4 goals and making 2 assists. Essentially, he’s proven to the Blues that he’d be worth giving a chance to.
But will he ever get that chance? History suggests it isn’t likely. Chelsea’s squad is simply chock-full of midfielders, and they’re clearly still willing to spend big money on proven talent, as their recent signing of Christian Pulisic proves. Plus, a good season on loan doesn’t always mean the Blues will give a player a chance – look at Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for examples of that.
Mount has already made the England senior squad and although he hasn’t received his first cap yet, it seems like only a matter of time. But to make it that far he’s going to have to keep playing, and therefore a move away from Stamford Bridge seems likely.
Making his destination the Bundesliga could be a very smart move; Mount has already shown that he’s capable of adjusting to a foreign league, as he had two successful seasons in the Netherlands with Vitesse. And of course, the Bundesliga is a step up from both the Championship and the Eredivisie. German teams have already shown their willingness to play young talent, and judging by his talents, Mount could be as big a success as Jadon Sancho there.
