5 reasons why Neymar should join Real Madrid

FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala 2015
Neymar could have the rare chance to have played alongside Messi and Ronaldo

Neymar Jr. has had a spectacular debut season at Paris Saint-Germain but his contributions have largely gone under the radar. Neymar was the star of the last summer transfer window as he became the most expensive signing of all time after moving out of FC Barcelona for a whopping £195 million.

Though his exploits on the field have been a treat to watch, he has also made the headlines for dodgy reasons. He had an on-pitch disagreement with Edinson Cavani over set-piece responsibilities and has also been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid which will undoubtedly rub Barca fans the wrong way.

Though the Brazilian was in the running to be the best player across Europe this season, he fractured the fifth metatarsal bone on his right foot and has missed out on the rest of the season.

With Ronaldo and Messi being up to their usual tricks and Mo Salah surprising everyone with his exploits, Neymar has arguably faded out of relevance a bit.

On that note, let's take a look at 5 reasons why it makes sense for Neymar to join Real Madrid.

#5 The Ligue 1 isn't the most challenging league in Europe

Ever since Paris Saint-Germain started investing heavily in the transfer market, winning the Ligue 1 has been a cakewalk for them. Though AS Monaco have tried their best to upset their monopoly, PSG have been able to rope in some of the biggest names in world football to silence their biggest title rivals.

As a result, PSG have scored 108 goals from 38 games this season. They have lost on just 3 occasions and are 15 points ahead of AS Monaco with one final game to go.

It has been all too easy for Neymar who wreaked havoc like it was nobody's business. He played 20 games for PSG in the league before picking up the injury that ended his season. In those 20 games, Neymar scored 19 times and assisted a further 13 goals.

Those numbers are staggering and they prove that the Ligue 1 can be easily negotiated with, especially for a player of Neymar's quality. If he has to improve and truly become the world's best, he needs to be plying his trade amongst Europe's elite and right now, it doesn't really look like Neymar is in the best place to be doing that.

#4 Fulfill his childhood dream

Coutinho and Neymar (childhood pic)

Back when Neymar and Philippe Coutinho were playing alongside each other in the FIFA U-16 World Cup in 2008, they were asked what club they dreamt about playing for. Both the players answered 'Real Madrid'.

Neymar has already played and been a star at Barcelona. Philippe Coutinho now plies his trade at the Camp Nou. As for Neymar, he has the rare chance to play for both Barcelona and Real Madrid in his career now. He has that rare opportunity in his career to have played alongside two of the greatest of all time- Messi and Ronaldo.

It won't just be the rare chance of representing two of Europe's greatest teams that motivates Neymar. It would be a dream come true for him to join Los Blancos as well.

#3 Real Madrid are serial winners and could offer Neymar a chance to win the Ballon d'Or

Real Madrid have been the most dominant team in Europe for quite a while now

Whether or not a player has been going great guns or tearing it up for his club, it all counts for nought when it comes to winning the Ballon d'Or. To win the Ballon d'Or, trophies are a pre-requisite. You could say that Neymar has won trophies at PSG but he got nowhere near Europe's elite trophy- the Champions League.

Is there any team in the world that is as good as Real Madrid in the Champions League? Los Blancos have won the Champions League thrice in the last 4 seasons. They have won 2 on the trot and are eyeing a hattrick this time around.

Real Madrid are a force to reckon with in Europe and outperforming their adversaries in the biggest stages of them all has become a norm for them. So it looks like Neymar and Real Madrid are a match made in heaven and both the player and the team could benefit from joining hands.

From Real Madrid's perspective, signing Neymar will be a statement and also a great way to make sure they continue their great run in Europe in the years to come.

#2 Neymar will become better if he plays at Real Madrid

Real Madrid v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg
What a duo this would be!

Real Madrid are no short of squad depth. Almost every player has to perform at their very best to stay in the squad. Players like Gareth Bale, Isco, Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and Mateo Kovacic are all battling to nail down a spot in the starting XI, week in and week out. Such is the quality in the Real Madrid squad.

Such competition will make Neymar a better player. On top of that, when you're backed up in midfield by players like Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro, you will have the freedom of Santiago Bernabeu to exploit and if anyone's capable of making the most of that for Real Madrid, it is Neymar.

Moreover, the La Liga is much more intense and technically progressive as compared to the Ligue 1. So there is no doubt as to whether or not Neymar will take one step closer to being the best in the world if he joins Zinedine Zidane's side.

Neymar is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world

Real Madrid have had the financial ability and the stature to attract some of the best players to have graced the game. For the past decade or so, they have been riding largely on the shoulders of one of the greatest players of all time- Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is now 33-years-old and though he has hardly shown signs of slowing down, it would only be human if he can't keep it up for long. He has had his time at the top and the fact that he gave Lionel Messi competition and even outclassed him several times is an accomplishment in itself.

Till last year, Neymar has always been the third best player in the world after Ronaldo and Messi. And now when Ronaldo steps down, is there any better player to look to for Real Madrid than Neymar Jr?

Neymar is just 26-years-old and is yet to reach his peak years. Hence, this is the perfect time for both Neymar and Real Madrid to join forces and dominate Europe.
