5 signings Juventus could make this summer

Juventus v Real Madrid - UEFA Champions League Quarter Final Leg One
Juventus have been underwhelming this season

Juventus have had an underwhelming season, despite the fact that they are on track to win the Coppa Italia.

They were eliminated from the Champions League after losing a close two-legged affair to Real Madrid early this month. After that, they continued their dip in form, drawing 1-1 against Crotone, who are placed 17th in the league, and losing to Napoli the following week.

This is rather uncharacteristic of the Old Lady which has won six scudetti in a row, each of which was won very comfortably. Their slump this season can be attributed to the lack of all-around quality; in comparison to past years, this version of the Bianconeri has is of low quality.

The board will look to make some summer signings in order to get the team back to its best form which was last season's when they almost won the treble.

Here are 5 signings Juventus may make in the summer transfer window.

#5 Lucas Digne (FC Barcelona)

Celta de Vigo v Barcelona - La Liga
Digne has been unable to cement a place as Barca's first choice left-back

Since his move to FC Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain two years ago, Digne has struggled to cement his place as first choice left-back ahead of Spanish international Jordi Alba, despite some impressive showings this season.

He has only made 13 appearances for the Catalan side this season and has been vocal about wanting more game time in the past, and according to reports from Goal.com, Digne might be on his way out this summer in a move to Italy that would cost around £25m.

The Bianconeri are reported to be looking to get the French international in as a replacement for current first choice left-back Alex Sandro, who has been a target for many clubs.

It is easy to see why Massimiliano Allegri would want to buy Digne, as he has a playing style similar to that of Sandro, having strong defensive skills, as shown by his average of 2 defensive actions in 90 minutes, while still being able to move the ball up the field to contribute to attack.

#4 Alex Meret (On loan at SPAL from Udinese)

ACF Fiorentina v Spal - Serie A
Meret has been outstanding for SPAL this season

The only goalkeeper on this list, Alex Meret has been outstanding for SPAL throughout the season. Known for having incredible reflexes, his impressive string of performances for the Biancazzurri has even landed him a starting position in the Italian U21 national side.

A product of the highly coveted Udinese Football Academy, the 21-year old keeper played a massive role in SPAL's promotion to Serie A last season, and he has continued being great in Italy's top flight as well.

Meret has an average saves-per-game ratio of 3.38 and a claim success rate of 92%, greater than that of both David De Gea, Manchester United's keystone in defense, and Allison Becker, who is widely considered the best goalkeeper in the Serie A.

Juventus have been looking for a young goalkeeper for a while now, to compete with Wojciech Szczęsny in the coming seasons. This is in preparation for the impending retirement of 40-year old captain, Gianluigi Buffon.

According to Calciomercato, they have found their man in Meret and if the story in Bleacher Report is to be believed, the Turin club will attempt to purchase the young goalie for a fee in excess of £15 million.

#3 Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)

Arsenal v AC Milan - UEFA Europa League Round of 16: Second Leg
Ramsey has played a key role in Arsenal's midfield in recent years

Ramsey is one of Arsenal's most underrated players as he is very gifted technically. With tireless stamina, a strong, accurate shot, quick transitions, and great tackling proficiency, even Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger, who is known for being hard on his players, has described Ramsey as "the complete midfielder".

This season, Ramsey has been outstanding, with a passing accuracy rate of 85%, and an average of over two chances created and one crucial defensive contribution per game.

The Welsh international has been quoted as saying that he was looking to leave the Gunners and considering that as a child, he was a supporter of Juventus, a move to the Turin club would make sense, especially considering that they have a very strong presence in European football.

Juventus have been needing an attack-minded, yet defensively proficient player in midfield for most of this season, as Sami Khedira has been very inconsistent and injury-prone this season. If Ramsey were to join the Serie A side, he would fit right in the center-midfielder position alongside Miralem Pjanic.

Juventus is reported to be wanting to acquire the Wales international, with reports from The Mirror suggesting that the Old Lady will try to buy the player this summer for a fee around £30 million.

#2 Matteo Darmian (Manchester United)

AFC Bournemouth v Manchester United - Premier League
Darmian has only made 6 appearances for Manchester United this season

Juventus are in dire need of a right-back this summer, with veteran player Stephan Lichtsteiner set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer, and the Daily Mail reports that they have found a replacement to him in the ex-Torino man.

Intelligent, dynamic, and hard-working, Darmian is known for his physical style of play and tackling prowess. In addition to this, he is good on both feet and has lots of stamina, which allows him to cover the entire wing and provide width to his team when attacking.

It is easy to see why the Old Lady would want to sign him; his style of play is very similar to that of the Swiss international as they are both very good in defence and provide width for their teams.

The player has been widely speculated as wanting to leave the Red Devils, as he has fallen out of favor with manager Jose Mourinho, and has struggled for game time, playing a mere 6 games this season.

According to The Mirror, Juventus will look to sign the Italy international for a fee in excess of £20m when the transfer window re-opens.

#1 Anthony Martial (Manchester United)

Newcastle United v Manchester United - Premier League
Martial hasn't been able to nail down a place in the starting XI, despite his impressive showings

Anthony Martial is a wonderful talent - at just 22 years old, he plays the French national team, mostly because of his incredible dribbling skills, composure, and finishing ability, which have helped Manchester United in part this season.

Despite this, however, he hasn't been able to nail down a place in the starting XI, having only played 1468 minutes this season; in comparison, the out of form Juan Mata has played 285 more minutes than him. This is attributable to the fact that he competes with both Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford for a role on the left flank.

As a result, he is said to be considering offers from other clubs, and one such club is La Vecchia Signora (The Old Lady). Juventus have been looking for a proper right-footed winger to take 31-year old Mario Mandzukic's place for a long time now, and Anthony Martial is reported to be the ideal replacement to the Croatian.

According to The Telegraph, Juventus will try to purchase the French international in a deal worth £80m this summer.
