5 things Antonio Conte needs to do to avoid the sack at Chelsea
It has not been smooth sailing for the Premier League winners, Chelsea, the season after their win. Jose Mourinho got the sack midway through his title defense in 2015 and Claudio Ranieri suffered the same fate last year with Leicester City.
Antonio Conte, however, looks unlikely to get the sack right away, with former Chelsea technical director, Michael Emenalo, saying that he has both the board's and the owner's support. Staying on for a third season is a different ball game and not at all a certainty. Roman Abramovich is notoriously trigger happy when it comes to managers and with Carlo Ancelotti available, there are quite a few objectives Conte needs to fulfill to secure a third season at the helm of Chelsea.
Let's take a look at 5 things Conte absolutely needs to do to remain as Chelsea manager next season.
#1 Make the most from his squad
Believe it or not, Chelsea spent close to €200 million this summer on transfers. This was after Antonio Conte continuosly moaned after the club's lack of transfers. Agreed that first-choice targets of the manager were not acquired but Chelsea still have a squad capable of playing a game every three days with fresh legs.
There is just no justification for Conte to have started with virtually the same 11 against Athletico Madrid and then West Ham and then say that his players were tired when they could not produce the goods against the Hammers.
Big teams have big squads and Chelsea have quite a big squad filled with talent. It is upto the manager to use his squad effectively. Last season, Chelsea had it easy with the fixture congestion. Conte has to accept that fact and use his squad properly to avoid the sack this season. Moaning about the fixture list is not going to help improve anything.
