Jose Mourinho, the self-proclaimed 'Special One', found himself squabbling with one of the members of the Chelsea camp, when his former club equalized in the last minute of their Premier League fixture against Manchester United yesterday.

Over the years, he has been sent off to the stands, suspended from the sidelines, banned from the pitch and attracted fines multiple times. His countless run-ins with the authorities are just a testament to his mercurial temperament.

Let's take a quick look back at 5 moments when Mourinho lost his cool on the sidelines.

#5 Eva Carneiro row

On 8 August 2015, Chelsea's title defense started off with a frustrating 2-2 draw with Swansea City, which saw Thibaut Courtois sent off early in the second half.

But, that was not the worst thing to happen at Stamford Bridge that day. This match will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. In this match, the then first-team doctor at Chelsea, Dr. Eva Carneiro, was publicly castigated by Jose Mourinho for just doing her job.

She rushed on the pitch to treat Eden Hazard, which did not amuse the Portuguese. He was clearly upset and let it all out in the post-match press conference. He said:

“I wasn't happy with my medical staff because even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game.”
“If you go to the pitch to assist a player, then you must be sure that a player has a serious problem. I was sure that Eden didn't have a serious problem. He had a knock and was very tired.
“My medical department left me with eight fit outfield players in a counter attack after a set piece and we were worried we didn't have enough players left.”

#4 Sending off against Cardiff City

Jose Mourinho couldn't help himself when he found the tactics employed by his Cardiff City counterpart to be time-wasting in a 4-1 win over the visitors, on 19 October 2013.

Mourinho repeatedly voiced his frustration to the referee Anthony Taylor and fourth official Trevor Kettle.

He vented his anger over the fact that Taylor warned Ivanovic for time-wasting tactics, instead of the Cardiff players, who had been involved in the misdemeanour from the beginning.

It was then that Taylor had seen enough of Mourinho, and ordered him off the technical area in the 70th minute of the match, forcing him to sit among the fans for the remaining 20 minutes.

Later on, he was slapped with a fine of £8000 as per the FA regulations, which the manager accepted.

#3 Touchline confrontation with Arsene Wenger

Mourinho's hatred for Wenger is well known. The bitter rivalry between two managers remains unparalleled in the league. It was clearly seen over the years that the Portuguese was the more bellicose of the two.

The rivalry reached its peak when the routine verbal spat between the duo turned into an all-out shoving contest in the 2014 Stamford Bridge clash between Chelsea and Arsenal.

Surprisingly, it was Wenger who initiated the shoving, because of a challenge on the then Gunners forward Alexis Sanchez by Blues defender Gary Cahill.

After the referee penalized his player for the challenge early in the match, Mourinho set out ranting against the harsh decision, voicing his objections very loudly from the sidelines. It was this shouting that prompted the Frenchman to give his old adversary a firm shove in the chest.

#2 Mourinho kicks the bottle

It seems Jose never agrees with the referees on anything. It is as if, for every free kick, offside call, and booking against his players, he has to react absurdly.

He became infamous for his run-ins with authorities at the Stamford Bridge and that didn't change at all even as he took over at Manchester United in 2016.

In his first season in charge at Old Trafford, Mourinho lost his cool after Paul Pogba was booked for diving by the officials in the league fixture against West Ham. What followed was one of his most ridiculous acts, in which he kicked a water bottle along the touchline, completely frustrated.

This invited proper action from the referee Jonathan Moss, who was more than happy to see the temperamental Portuguese off the field.

#1 Scuffle with Sarri's assistant

The game was in its last minute, Mourinho's men were in the lead and hoping to inflict the first defeat of the season on Sarri's blue army at Stamford Bridge, but Barkley equalized just before the final whistle.

This last minute drama already made this match one of the most memorable ones in the league so far. But, what happened on the sidelines following the goal was regrettable.

As per the latest reports, Sarri's assistant Marco Ianni goaded him following Ross Barkley's late goal, which forced a reaction out of Mourinho and led to a big scuffle, which only ended after the authorities intervened.

Mourinho, always so eruptive on the touchline, reacted well to the late equalizer, and just when it was looking like a controversy-free day in London, his reaction to Ianni landed him in a tough spot. Though this time around, many people are saying that his reaction was justifiable.
