Chelsea have agreed terms with AC Milan for the 2 year loan of Fernando Torres.

Fernando Torres arrived in Chelsea in January 2011 as the Londoners shelled out a then British record transfer fee of £50 million to Premier League rivals Liverpool for the services of the Spanish international. However, in his three and a-half years at Stamford Bridge, he has failed to do justice to Roman Abramovich’s large outlay and could never recapture the form that had seen him labelled as one of the most talented strikers in Europe.

The record of 20 goals in 110 appearances for the club embodies the persona of a man that has seen his footballing career go drastically downhill ever since arriving in London. It was not only his lack of goals, but his dramatic fall in performance levels and some point blank misses, that have seen him become a legend when it comes to internet humour.

Reports emerged earlier this week that Milan had turned their eyes to Torres to fill the void left by the departure of their talismanic forward Mario Balotelli to Liverpool last weekend.

Reports coming in sometime back suggested that the Spaniard would be sold to Milan for a fee of £12.5 million, but now Chelsea have confirmed that he is indeed joining the Italians on a two year loan. Torres is expected to put pen to paper on a two-year deal and be introduced in the red and black of AC Milan tomorrow at the San Siro.

The ex-Atletico Madrid man will also view this as a chance to move on from his London nightmare and re-build his reputation. At the age of 30, it won’t be very difficult to believe that the Spaniard still has a few years of top level football left in him.
