There was good news for England fans today as pictures emerged of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returning to training ahead of the crunch clash with Uruguay.

The official England Twitter account tweeted out the photo of Oxlade-Chamberlain back in action and this will be mean that he is contention to start against Luis Suarez’s Uruguay. The young midfielder is one of the brightest hopes for both club and country and his return to fitness is extremely welcome.

England opened their campaign with a 2- 1 defeat to Italy but there were plenty of reasons for fans to be optimistic with some exciting and quick football on display. England had the better of the chances and they were unlucky to find themselves on the end of a defeat.

Ahead of the next match there are some calls for Wayne Rooney to be dropped and either Oxlade-Chamberlain or Adam Lallana used alongside Raheem Sterling, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge. Despite setting up England’s goal most fans were critical of Rooney’s display, highlighting his failure to really influence the game.

Uruguay meanwhile have injury concerns of their own, they will be hoping that talisman Suarez will be fit enough to face England after the forward sat their own opening day defeat, a shock 3-1 loss to Costa Rica.

England (15) created four more chances than Italy (11) in their opening Group D group game.
