Real Madrid full-back Alvaro Arbeloa and Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique were involved in a silly argument on Twitter last night. Barcelona lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad while Real Madrid beat Eibar 4-0 to close the gap between the two sides to 4 points.
The Los Blancos man instigated the conversation when he took a dig at Barcelona by pointing out that it was difficult to win if the other team had 11 players on the field – a take on how Barcelona are accused of trying to get players sent off to make the game a whole lot easier for them.
“How difficult it is to win against 11 men! Great games from Illarramendi and Granero - promise fulfilled. Congratulations!”
Arbeloa also praised former Real Madrid teammates Asier Illarramendi and Esteban Granero for their performances against Barcelona paving the way for his team to catch up on the leaders in the race for the Liga title.
This prompted a response from Gerard Pique who was told about this Tweet by Tiempo de Juego. Pique took a dig at Arbeloa's lack of playing time.
Pique hit out by saying "A player who played 1 game in 32 doesn't deserve a response". Arbeloa, though, didn't give up on the argument and continued to pelt at Gerard Pique almost instantaneously replying to the above Tweet.
Arbeloa replied saying "Well, (Pique) was right. What a film. The truth hurts.” in relation to the Tweet the Barcelona man had put up after Real Madrid's loss to Wolfsburg. Pique had Tweeted saying he watched Will Smith's Concussion – which is 'La verdad duele' in Spanish or 'The truth hurts.'
Pique, having been shut out by the Real Madrid man, replied by pointing out a grammatical mistake putting the argument to an end.
Given the rivalry of their two clubs, it's no surprise to see Pique and Arbeloa have a go at each other. However, the two of them are likely to be in the same team come the summer as they prepare to defend the UEFA Euro title.
