Spanish striker Alvaro Motara has extended his contract with Italian gaints Juventus until the end of 2020 season.

The Spanish international has scored 18 goals in 65 appearances since joining the Old Lady from Real Madrid. He’s made a relatively decent start to his Bianconeri career, with crucial contributions for Juve as he scored a goal in each leg of last season’s Champions League semi-final clash against Real Madrid.

Overall, Morata had a promising season last year, scoring 15 goals for Juventus in only 44 appearances. However, he has found goals harder to come by this campaign, netting only three in his last 19 appearances.

Despite, Morata’s downward spiral this year, the Serie A side announced on Thursday that he has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club for another 12 months, his previous agreement was due to expire in 2019.

A statement from Juve said "Alvaro Morata has extended his relationship with Juventus. The Spanish striker, whose previous agreement expired in 2019, has signed a new contract which expires on June 30, 2020."

The Spaniard made his international debut against Belarus on the 15th November 2014. He scored his first goal for the Spanish senior side on 27th March 2015 against Ukraine in Seville.

Morata, who started his professional career for Real Madrid Castilla side in the second division of the Spanish League is a graduate of Madrid’s La Fabrica academy. He had previously scored 11 goals in 43 appearances for the Los Blancos. There were rumours of Morata making a return to Madrid, which were given credence due to Karim Bemzema’s current troubles with the law.

Morata joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2014 but his boyhood side have a buy back option in his contract, allowing Madrid to buy him back in the summer transfer window of 2017 for a price of €30 million. Juventus were keen to remove the clause from this new deal, but Real Madrid resisted, aware of Morata’s growing stature.

Morata’s importance to Juventus was amplified this year as Carlos Tevez left the club at the end of last season. The Spaniard’s troubles in front of goal this season has been reflected in Juventus’ form this year, which has seen the club make a slow start, but recently recover to 5th in the table, just 6 points behind leaders Inter Milan.
