Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle says Jose Mourinho’ side won’t win the Premier League this year because they haven’t been able to break down the likes of Norwich and Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

“We had a chance, it was only a little chance but we wanted to win so that we were still involved on the last day because you never know what can happen,” he told Chelsea’s official website.

‘We played very well against the big teams – Liverpool, Man City, Man United and Arsenal – but at home you have to win against teams like Sunderland and Norwich. We didn’t do that and that’s why we won’t win the league this year.’

The Germany international believes his side’s downfall on Sunday was their inability to pick holes in the deep Canaries backline. Jose Mourinho slammed his players after the Norwich draw.

“We didn’t have many good chances in the match apart from my shot which hit the post and maybe a few shots from outside the box,” he said.

“We’re disappointed, we wanted the win so much. It was our last match at home and, with a win, we still had hopes for the title. Now, we are third and we’ll probably stay there.”

Schurrle also cleared up the penalty incident he was involved in, claiming the decision didn’t go against the home side.

“Their player did touch me a bit but I saw him touch the ball so it wasn’t a penalty,’ he said.

Chelsea haven’t scored a goal from their last 49 shots at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
