What's the story?

Angel Di Maria created quite a buzz on Tuesday night at Old Trafford, both with his scintillating display on the field and also with his goal celebration.

In case you didn't know...

Manchester United signed Angel di Maria in 2014 when Louis van Gaal was in charge, but the Argentine lasted only one season at Old Trafford. He made 27 appearances in the Premier League but managed just three goals, and was sold to Paris Saint-Germain during the summer of 2015.

On his return to Old Trafford on Tuesday, Di Maria produced a scintillating display and played a key role in his team's win with two assists. He was booed constantly by United fans and had bottles thrown at him, but the winger ultimately had the last laugh.

The heart of the matter

Di Maria's Old Trafford return was filled with drama and controversy. He was booed during the warm-ups by some sections of the United fans. Also, during an incident in the first half, Ashley Young shoved him off the pitch and he rolled into a metal barrier, but was able to continue after treatment.

Then came the moment the Argentine had been waiting for. He expertly found Presnel Kimpembe from a corner, and the Frenchman smashed it home from close range. As Paris Saint-Germain celebrated the goal, Di Maria turned aggressive and appeared to shout “F*** off P**” towards the United fans.

What's next?

Di Maria subsequently assisted Kylian Mbappe for PSG's second goal, and the game ended 2-0 in favor of the French side. The return leg will be played in March at the Parc des Princes, with PSG firmly in the drivers' seat to qualify for the quarterfinal.
