Another day to laugh at Tottenham as Willian move agreed

After last night’s news broke that Chelsea were hijacking the Willian deal from under the nose of Spurs, I chuckled to myself the reaction of Daniel Levy, and AVB continuing in his role as Jose Mourinho’s Chief Scout.

Now, as the deal is confirmed bar a work permit, my thoughts turn to the fans and the occasions over the years where we have had the opportunity to laugh at Tottenham.

This deal will get under the skin of our Europa League dwelling neighbours to the North.

Ok, so the record run without defeat has passed. Yet there have been plenty of times over the years where we and often the entire football community have been able to laugh at Tottenham.

19th May 2012 – Champions League Qualification

In the 2011/2012 season, after looking locked on for third, Tottenham collapsed late in the season, clinging to fourth and a second bite at the Champions League via the playoffs.

They even managed to finish above a Chelsea side for the first time in years as Chelsea slumped to sixth.

New manager Di Matteo was, however, performing miracles in the Champions League and a win in the final would deny Harry Redknapp’s side a place in Europe’s elite once more.

Saving us £10m by hiring Andre Villas Boas

When Chelsea sacked Andre Villas Boas he was on a fat contract that he was being paid until he found a new club. In the summer of 2012, Spurs stepped in and hired him saving Chelsea the rest of his contract, estimated to be around £10m.

A little part of me hopes we put this money in a separate account and use it for the transfer of Willian.

FA Cup Semi Final

A goal that never was and a Didier Drogba power show saw Spurs thumped 5-1 in a game that was tighter than the score suggests.

We may have been fortunate to get a couple of decisions but in the end history will show a thumping for Spurs and another Chelsea FA Cup in the trophy cabinet.

This win kept us on track for a historic double and left poor Tottenham trophyless again.

Food Poisoning 2006

Remember the last day of the 2006 season

*Final note, Tottenham fans reading should take this as a sign of respect if you were as bad as QPR we wouldn’t bother.
