Chelsea Player Ratings

Pulisic scored Chelsea's only goal of the game

Willy Caballero - 6/10

Arsenal really didn't have a shot on goal apart from the goals that they scored, both of which Caballero had little chance to deal with.

Reece James - 5/10

James really couldn't defend Aubameyang well enough on the night, as he was caught high up the pitch a few times too often. Both Maitland-Niles and Aubameyang ensured that he couldn't get forward enough either, as he really didn't get into enough crossing positions at all.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 3/10

He was troubled by Aubemayang's runs into the space between him and James, and beyond. Eventually, He compounded his troubles by conceding the penalty that helped Arsenal equalise midway through the first half.

Soon after, his game was ended by what seemed to be a hamstring injury, in what was a personal game to forget, for the Chelsea skipper.

Kurt Zouma - 4/10

Zouma endured a torrid afternoon and was involved in the passage of play that led to the matchwinning goal. Aubameyang skipped past him with relative ease and dinked the ball into the back of the net, as the Frenchman had no answers to the Arsenal striker's brilliance.

Antonio Rudiger - 4/10

As the game wore on, Rudiger went on to be more and more troubled by Pepe. While Alonso got caught high up the pitch, the German was caught one-on-one against Pepe's pace and dribbling ability and didn't really cover himself in any glory.

Marcos Alonso - 5/10

Like James on the other side, he was caught high up the pitch far too often but with little to show in terms of his attacking end product.

Jorginho - 5/10

Started the game off really well, but Jorginho was eventually overpowered by Xhaka and Ceballos in the centre of the park and couldn't really influence play too much at all.

Mateo Kovacic - 4/10

Kovacic was really unlucky to see red in this game, as his tackle on Xhaka never really warranted a second yellow card. But even when he was in the game, he never managed to get the better of Ceballos and Xhaka in the Arsenal midfield.

Mason Mount - 6/10

Mount did provide Chelsea with a reasonable amount of thrust from the left flank, as he cut inside to link up with Giroud. But Chelsea were flat for the most part of it behind the front three, as they never built any rhythm in their play to enable Mount to cause problems in the final third.

Christian Pulisic - 8/10

The American superstar put in another fabulous display of his directness and dribbling ability before he was unlucky to have pulled his hamstring to be taken off just after half-time.

It was Pulisic who put Chelsea in the lead within the first five minutes, after a lovely bit of skill to take him past Tierney, and a neat finish past the on-rushing Martinez.

Olivier Giroud - 5/10

Giroud started the game in grand style, with his back-heel setting up Pulisic's finish for Chelsea's first. But after that, he was outstandingly marshalled by Holding and Luiz, as Arsenal didn't allow him to win his first header to link up with the rest of the Chelsea attackers.

Even when Giroud did win the first ball though, Arsenal blocked off the second ball effectively throughout the whole game.

Substitutes

Andreas Christensen - 4/10

A little unlucky in the build-up to the Arsenal winner, as he might have felt that Bellerin fouled him in the build-up. But that aside, his defending really didn't stand out.

Pedro - 5/10

Pedro's buzzing ability with his dribbling and pace kept the Arsenal defence on their toes. He will hope that he didn't do significant damage to his shoulder at the end of the game.

Tammy Abraham - 5/10

Came on late in the game, but didn't really have too many meaningful touches of the ball.

Callum Hudson-Odoi - 5/10

Like Abraham, he didn't have enough touches on the ball at all.

Ross Barkley - 5/10

Ditto as Abraham and Hudson-Odoi.
