Arsenal 4-1 West Ham: 5 Talking Points

Arsenal v West Ham United - Premier League
Arsenal took all three points against their London neighbours.

SCORERS: Arsenal - Monreal 51' Ramsey 82' Lacazette 85' 89'; West Ham - Arnautovic 64'

Arsenal Football Club roared back in the final 8 minutes of the game after being deadlocked till the 82nd minute on a day that they were expected to pay tribute to their boss by putting on a show.

Davis Moyes' men did a job on the Arsenal side who struggled to break down the two banks of four in the dark blue of United. Monreal opened the scoring in the second half after which Marko Arnautovic got the visitors back on terms.

Arsenal then took things to heart and put the hammer to the pedal, as they flew past the Hammers in the final stages of the match.

Here are the talking points:

#5 Someone forgot to explain to the men in red the sheer significance of the occasion

A hideous start to a fixture that has been built up in such a special manner. Everyone turned up expecting a great beginning to the the long goodbye, but the players failed to match it with the football on the pitch.

Arsenal seemed lethargic and out of creative juice, with Ozil not involved at all in the fixture. They somehow managed to lumber through the first forty-five with no real moments of brilliance.

A pity, considering the significance of the occasion.

#4 Monreal is now a reliable steward in the Arsenal side

Consummate finish by the left-back.

The Spaniard is slowly growing into one of the most reliable men in an Arsenal shirt these days. After a timid start to life in England, when he arrived along with Santi Cazorla from Spain, he has grown into one of the favourites of the home crowd - regularly putting in sturdy performances and chipping in with important goals in Cup finals and the like.

Another terrific performance put in by the left-back on the night, igniting the spark that eventually burnt the visitors down. A terrific left foot volley to get things underway for the Gunners. He has surly become indispensable to the Arsenal cause.

#3 Lacazette finally finished a game under Wenger and reaped its rewards with a brace.

A brace on the night for the striker.

Alexandre Lacazette has always been embroiled in controversy regarding his starting position at his new club.

The Frenchman has failed to win the trust of his manager who regularly leaves him out of important fixtures and never fails to take him off before the final whistle. Something that has irked the striker deeply and something he has publicly alluded to.

Tonight though, he finally got to finish a game under the outgoing manager and as a result of those extra minutes on the pitch managed to bag two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game.

#2 Wenger's greatest disciple stole the show on a glorious night of major significance

Arsenal v West Ham United - Premier League
Another goal for the midfielder.

Laca might have gotten the brace, but the man of the night was Aaron Ramsey - arguably the greatest product of Arsene Wenger.

Considering the quality that he has managed: the likes of Henry, Cesc, RVP and the like, the Welshman is probably the most valuable product as he is the only one who has remained loyal to the club.

Ramsey took his time to get going on the night like the rest of the side, but then lit up the Emirates stadium with a goal and a stunning assist to cap off a fantastic night's work.

#1 Arsenal take their first step towards a Post-Wenger Era

What a way to pay homage to the great man.

A 4-1 win in one of the final three fixtures in the ground that Wenger help build, was probably the best way to begin the difficult process of life after Arsene.

Not the best start to the match as the players failed to rise to the occasion. We wonder if the players have been hiding behind the manager for the longest time. It is always the manager who takes the blame for the loss as far as Arsenal Football Club is concerned.

However, they finally decided to get off their backs and do something about the fact that West Ham were holding them at home.

A final flourish was enough to seal the points on a very historic night for the club.
