Arsenal Injury News: Jack Wilshere Feared Out For Three Months

Reports have emerged that Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere could face at least three months on the sidelines if his ankle injury aggravates further. Wilshere suffered a knock during an international friendly in June and was stiff in training for a few weeks afterwards. He got a hit on the same ankle against Boca Juniors in the Emirates Cup, and has been out of action ever since.

Wilshere currently has a surgical boot on to protect his ankle, and Arsene Wenger and Fabio Capello will both be fretting over the length of his injury, with both the Gunners and The Three Lions in need of his services.

The Daily Mirror ran this report which claims that Wilshere could require a screw inserted in his ankle if he breaks down while recovering again. Wenger is taking extreme care not to mismanage the situation. Giving Wilshere pain killing injections is a viable option, but that would just mask the severity of the injury instead of curing it, and the Arsenal authorities are decided on the fact that Wilshere’s long term well-being is most important.

It is with this view that Wenger moved quickly to get midfield reinforcements before the transfer window ended. He procured the services of Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta and also got Yossi Benayoun on loan for a year from Chelsea. Arsenal hope to have Wilshere back in light training in mid-October and take things from there.

Full back Kieran Gibbs has given Arsenal some injury reprieve by recovering as expected from a hamstring strain and pushing himself back in contention along with new signing Andre Santos. Arsenal will want to end their horror start to the Premier League against Swansea. The Gunners are currently 17th in the table.
