Arsenal midfielder Kim Kallstrom is ready to hand manager Arsene Wenger a huge boost as he edges closer to full fitness and is in contention for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Everton.

The 31-year-old’s arrival at the Emirates from Spartak Moscow on loan in January was a shock as Wenger looked to bolster his squad and provide injury cover for those already on the sidelines.

However, news quickly emerged that Kallstrom was injured himself and had been nursing an ongoing back problem. Wenger attracted a great deal of criticism for his choice to sign the midfielder, but Kallstrom could yet represent a decent acquisition at such short notice.

The North Londoners initially feared he would not feature at all this season but the Swedish international has progressed quickly in recent weeks and will soon be fit to make his debut.

While he is an outside chance to face Roberto Martinez’s side this week, Kallstrom is likely to be fit for the crucial Premier League showdown with rivals Tottenham Hotspur on March 16, reports the Mirror.

Meanwhile, Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey is also on the comeback trail after finally shaking off a thigh injury that he picked up on Boxing Day. The 23-year-old is reportedly close to agreeing a new £100,000 a week deal with the club and his return could see a resurgence in the Gunners stuttering title challenge.

Kim Kallstrom’s passing accuracy of 70% for Spartak Moscow this season is the worst of all their midfielders.
