Arsenal are considering a move for Atletico Madrid star and formerLiverpool target Diego Costa in January as they look to reinforce their striking options, according to the Daily Star.

Costa, 25, turned down a move to Anfield in the summer in favour of signing a new contract at Atletico, but remained loyal to the team that gave him his chance of success in La Liga.

Costa said: “I was close to leaving, Liverpool are a great team, but after fighting so hard and overcoming difficulties to get my place at Atletico, how could I leave?

“I thought that it was very important for me to continue growing in this club and to play here for many years.”

The Brazilian has been in sensational form for Los Rojiblancos with 13 goals in 12 La Liga games so far this season, and has recently announced his intention to play for Spain over his native Brazil.

Costa has been in lethal form this season, converting an incredible 39.1% of his chances.
