Rumour: Arsenal eye Malaga shot-stopper Willy Caballero as competition for Szczesny

Arsenal are keeping tabs on Malaga shot-stopper Willy Caballero, writes The Independent.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for a goalkeeper to provide competition for Wojciech Szczesny and has identified Caballero as a possible solution.

Emiliano Viviano’s one-year loan stint at the Gunners came to an end this summer, while ?ukasz Fabia?ski recently joined Swansea City on a free transfer, meaning Arsenal now have only one senior goalkeeper on their books.

The Independent understands that Wenger put a new goalkeeper and a replacement for Manchester City-bound Bacary Sagna at the top of his transfer wish list this transfer window.

The French boss has made contact with Malaga regarding Caballero’s availability and would be willing to sanction a £7m deal to land the La Liga veteran.

Atletico Madrid are set to challenge the North London club for Caballero’s signature, however, seeing the former Elche man as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois when he returns to parent club Chelsea following his three-year loan spell in Madrid.

Although Malaga only managed an 11th-placed finish in their last campaign, Caballero earned an impressive 12 clean sheets the fifth most of any La Liga goalkeeper.
