What's the story?
David Luiz has explained the reason why he decided to leave Chelsea in favour of a move to Arsenal. According to the defender, he always liked to do some challenges in life and is not afraid to try things.
In case you didn't know...
David Luiz joined Arsenal for £8 million from Chelsea on the deadline day of the recently concluded transfer window for Premier League clubs.
The Brazilian international enjoyed two successful spells with the Blues, playing 160 Premier League games in the process. He helped Chelsea to win one Premier League trophy, two FA Cups along with one Champions League and two Europa League trophies.
Eventually, the 32-year-old made the switch to join Unai Emery at Arsenal this summer.
The heart of the matter
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal, David Luiz has revealed the reason why decided to leave Chelsea for the North London club.
"The cycle finished there."
"It was a conversation between me and Chelsea and everybody. I had an opportunity to come to another big club."
"In my life, I’ve always liked to do some challenges. I’m not scared at all to try things. I think not too many players would make this kind of move, they would maybe be scared, or something like that."
"I'm just trying to do big things in my life, so like I said, my cycle at Chelsea finished and now I’m excited to start a new chapter of my life here."
He also revealed what attracted him to play for Arsenal.
"It’s a big club - not just in England, but everybody around the world knows how big Arsenal is. When I had an opportunity to come to this kind of big club, I had to take it. That’s why I’m here."
Arsenal will face Newcastle United in their opening Premier League match this Sunday.
