Reports: Arsenal star set for a mega-deal with Premier League rivals
What's the story?
Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez will move to the Gunners' Premier League rivals Manchester City for free next summer and earn £400,000-a-week according to English media outlet Mirror. This deal would make the Chilean international one of the top earners in football today.
The Citizens, who had made a bid for Sanchez last summer, is still interested in the player but is ready to wait till next summer so that they can sign the player without having to pay a single penny to Arsenal.
In case you didn't know...
Sanchez joined the London based club from La Liga side Barcelona for a fee of around £38 million in 2014. The 29-year-old then went on to score 77 and assist 46 since his arrival at the club.
The former Udinese player, who has his contract with Arsenal running out in the summer of 2018, has refused to sign a new deal with the club. Sanchez had expressed his intentions to move away from the club last summer.
Manchester City even made a £60 million bid for the forward, but couldn't get a deal done because Arsenal were not able to sign Thomas Lemar who Arsene Wenger had earmarked as the Chilean's replacement.
Reports have emerged this season stating that some of the Arsenal players are unhappy about Sanchez's attitude. They believe that the former Barcelona man's antics are affecting the team's performances this season.
The heart of the matter
If the report from Mirror is to believed, Manchester City will be offering Sanchez a deal that will see him earn £400,000 per week. The Chilean will be receiving a salary of £325,000-a-week plus image rights that will add up to another 75,000-a-week.
Sanchez has turned down a similar offer from China, but is ready to accept the Pep Guardiola-managed side's deal. This transfer will make the former River Plate player one of the highest earning players in the game.
Sanchez has made his mind on leaving Arsenal and it doesn't look like the Chilean is going to decide against it. Manchester City had clearly expressed their interest in signing the attacker last summer and is ready to get him for free next summer.
Arsenal will be the biggest losers here as they will be losing one of their most valuables and won't be getting a single penny for it. The Gunners are also on the verge of losing another one of their top stars Mesut Ozil for free as well.
The club's performances have been below par for some time now and losing two of their best players will make things even more difficult for Arsenal.
