Mesut Ozil

The summer transfer window was very successful for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal FC as it saw them wrapping up the transfer of German sensation Mesut Ozil. The midfielder confirmed his signing to the north London club and is widely regarded as one of the most significant signings of all time for Arsenal.

This piece of transfer business came as a huge relief to the club and their fans after missing out on the signatures of Luis Gustavo and Liverpool want away striker Luis Suarez. The club was understood to be looking for a central forward, a midfielder and also a goalkeeper. So, on average, the transfer market has been quite beneficial to the club.

Emiliano Viviano has joined Arsenal from Palermo on a season loan and is considered to be a deputy to Polish keeper Wojciech Szcz?sny. This should solve the goalkeeping division problem for the Gunners as it was induce a fight for the top spot in the club and also enable the manager to rest players according to the position. The 27 year old Italian is a seasoned veteran and is ready to start a new chapter of his career in the London club.

The marquee signing of the window has to be the German magician Mesut Ozil. He was acquired by the club for a transfer fee of £42.5 million from Real Madrid and the club supporters have gone on to compare this business to the signing of club legend Dennis Bergkamp. Ozil will be a huge boost to the midfield of the Gunners as his passing and dribbling is already famous all around the world.

The German playmaker can be the trump card for Arsene Wenger this season as his final balls can mean a considerable amount of goals for the team which will propel them to a major position in the league and also the cups. The record club transfer is already a hit among the fans with almost fifteen thousand jerseys sold within forty eight hours.

The only surprise in the transfer market remains the lack of initiative in case of signing a world class striker. It is common knowledge that the Gunners failed in their bid for new Napoli frontman Gonzalo Higuain, Liverpool’s rebel Luis Suarez and also Wayne Rooney. But the transfer deadline day was only filled with news involving the Ozil transfer. The only effort for a signing was the loan bid made by Arsenal for out of favour Chelsea striker Demba Ba. But the deal failed to materialize as manager Jose Mourinho pulled the plug citing the reason that the Ozil transfer has made the Gunners a prime title contender. But if the rumours are to be believed, the Arsenal board has given Wenger the green signal for pursuing Luis Suarez in the January transfer window as the need for a striker is quite clear. Arsene Wenger launched multiple bids for the Uruguayan, but Liverpool were persistent about not letting him go. The existing strikers are Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski (Injured for 8 to 9 weeks) and new signing Yaya Sanogo. A world class poacher is exactly what is needed in front of the star studded Gunner midfield to take the club to a whole new level.

Thus, the transfer market was quite beneficial for Arsenal, but the need for a striker still looms over the club’s ambitions.
