Atletico Madrid’s captain Gabi played the last month of the season with a rib injury. Manager Diego Simeone knew about Gabi’s rib injury but Gabi asked both the manager and the medical staff to remain calm on the injury and not let the news leak to the media or his teammates.
Gabi played a crucial role in Atletico Madrid’s title winning season, and had played against tougher teams like Barcelona, Levante, Valencia, Malaga and Elche in the domestic league, and played games in Europe against Chelsea at home and the crucial game at Stamford Bridge, which helped Atletico reach the Champions League final. He also played in an exhausting match against cross town rivals Real Madrid in the 2013-14 UEFA Champions League final.
He is not only a talented midfielder, but has become a powerhouse in the middle of the park for Simeone’s team and his crucial performances had helped Atletico Madrid reach the finals of the Champions League and win the La Liga title after a gap of 18 years.
The Spaniard has played 36 games for Atletico Madrid in La Liga scoring 3 goals and providing 8 assists to his teammates. He has not only been the captain, but he is also loved by the fans and has been a fan favourite since his move from Real Zaragoza to Atletico Madrid back in 2011.
