Aubameyang clarifies that he did not say he would only go to Real Madrid

The Gabon international has taken to Twitter to blast reports claiming he would only leave Dortmund for Real Madrid.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has slammed the media over spreading false rumours

After a recent interview with German broadcaster ZDF, it was widely reported that the Gabon striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang  is open only to a move to Real Madrid this summer. But now, the Dortmund star has come forward squashing all those reports and has stated that he was misquoted and his words were twisted, slamming the German media. Along with the Spanish giants, Aubameyang is also linked with Manchester City and Arsenal.

The 27-year-old has gone on Twitter to clarify on the issue and said, "I can read everywhere something that I never said 'only Madrid can take me away from Dortmund'. I don't know who transformed my words but I'm sad that people do what they want. I'm a player from Borussia Dortmund and in any interviews, I was honest to say that it was my dream but nothing more." This statement will cool his transfer rumours to some extent for this month.

All these rumours started when in the same interview with ZDF, the Gabon international spoke his heart out and revealed that his grandfather wanted him to play in Spain and that Aubameyang promised him that he will play for Real in his career. His future has become a headache for Thomas Tuchel as he desperately needs his star player to stay at the Westfalenstadion after already losing senior players like Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan.

Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has shed light on the club’s stance saying, “We can only repeat,as always, that he has a contract with us until 2020 and feels good at Dortmund – as it should remain”.

It seems obvious that the club won’t sell him cheaply and if anyone wants to sign him, they will have to spend big which has been the tale of this transfer window. The biggest evidence of this is the Gonzalo Higuain deal where Juve spent a mammoth €90 million on the striker.

Aubameyang scored 25 goals last campaign and fell just five short of claiming the golden boot from Robert Lewandowski. He will look to improve on his tally of last season but if that happens in Germany or abroad is there to be seen. Real Madrid may come calling who have relatively silent this transfer window whereas Man City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to work with Aubameyang after already securing the services of his teammate, Ilkay Gundogan. Arsenal too are in the market for a striker and can spend a lot if they find the right type of player.
