Azpilicueta: What do you think of him playing left back?

Until recently, Cesar Azpilicueta has been a bit part player at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho. In the last two games he has started at left back and I wondered what your opinion is? Do you think a player should play in his natural position?

Ever since Ashley Cole signed for Chelsea, he has pretty much nailed down the left back spot as his own. Ryan Bertrand continues to develop his game but has not really forced the managers hand to select him rather than Cole and so it’s always been an area where you felt as though we needed real competition for places.

In the past two games, Cesar “Dave” Azpilicueta has been selected, has come into the side and has played really well and let’s not forget, scored against The Arsenal in the League Cup game at the Emirates!

Speaking this week about playing in place of Cole, Azpilicueta said:

“Every game that I have more minutes I feel better, Provided I can play and be useful to the team, I’d be delighted to stay on the left the whole season.”

It was a surprise to see Cole dropped but as Jose has said, he wants competition for places and if you are not playing well enough, you are out. Look at Juan Mata, David Luiz and now Cole.

What do you think of Azpilicueta playing left back? Do you think this is a position he could make his own or would you prefer to see him playing in his natural position at right back?
